Austin Ventures hires Adam Dell
Austin Ventures has hired as an investor Adam Dell, the brother of the founder of local computer maker Dell Inc.
Adam Dell will target early-stage venture investments in the information technology and business services areas, according to an Austin Ventures news release.
Dell was the founder and managing general partner of Austin-based Impact Venture Partners, which lists 16 portfolio companies. One of those, MessageOne Inc., was acquired in 2008 by Dell Inc. (Nasdaq: DELL) for $155 million. Michael Dell, the CEO of Round Rock-based Dell Inc., is Adam Dell’s older brother.
Before Impact Venture, Adam Dell was an investor at two California-based firms, Crosspoint Venture Partners and Enterprise Partners.
In late 2008, Austin Ventures closed on a nearly $900 million fund. About two-thirds of the fund, or $600 million, is dedicated to growth equity deals rather than early-stage venture capital investments, firm officials have said.
