Hawaii gasoline prices rise

Honolulu drivers go into the Memorial Day weekend paying an average of $3.43 a gallon, which is a bit (2.6 cents) lower than earlier this month, according to a forecaster called GasBuddy.com.

It’s no surprise that Mainland prices are a lot lower, $2.75 a gallon on average, higher in the West, and as low as $2.35 in South Carolina, New Jersey and Oklahoma.

Mainland drivers are paying an average of 30 cents a gallon more than last year, but they shouldn’t complain much around Honolulu drivers, who are paying 78.4 cents more than a year ago.

“Oil prices have lost over 15 percent of their value in just a few weeks,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com., “so we’ll continue to see retail prices fall.”
